A great deal of tribute goes to Pat Hurlburt, who organized the first gathering of Mainers in Hawthorne. Invitations to the potluck went out to all the folks they could think of. Pat and her team of helpers were amazed at the number of people who showed up. She went on to lead the group for about seven years. As a retired teacher, she was gifted at leading us in creative games that tested our knowledge of Maine trivia and brought us together in camaraderie. Irv and Barb McCalmon took over leadership in approximately 2014. In 2017, we formally became the Maine Club. Our events are Welcome Back and Farewell picnics, an annual potluck in January, and a reunion potluck at the McCalmon’s’ Breakwater condo Marina each August in South Portland. Anyone with a Maine connection is welcome to attend our events.
