The Woodcarvers Club at Hawthorne is open to all skill levels from beginner to advanced. We all work together sharing tips and ideas and instruction is available as needed. The Club has simple knives and projects available to help you get started. We meet Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the clubhouse Craft Room.

If you would like to play, just come to the course on club play days and a putter, tee, and ball will be provided. Rules of play are minimal, and instruction will be given in an informal manner.  The goal of the game is to have fun. Everyone is welcome.

Newcomers

Newcomers is the first group you should join at Hawthorne. We have an event the first Tuesday of every month from October through May. Every month the event is different. You can join us for a meal and socializing while meeting other newcomers and making new friends. What a great way to start your new life here at Hawthorne. You can only come to Newcomers for two years after you have become a resident of Hawthorne. So don’t wait – come and find out how much fun you can have here at Hawthorne.

Many events are free or there might be a small charge if food is provided. There are no dues and you only pay if you choose to come to a ticketed event. There is no obligation and you just come when you choose to come. Sign up is requested in advance to free events on the Quad in the Hall. If it is a ticketed event, you may buy tickets in the Hall from 10 to 11:30 a.m. (Please bring small bills.)

Watch the Weekly Bulletin for more information on events and the dates that tickets will be on sale. Don’t miss this great opportunity to meet new people and have a lot of fun.

Library

A trip to Hawthorne Library will help you find a DVD for your evening enjoyment, an audio book to listen to as you relax by the pool or a recent magazine to keep you up to date in the current events of our world today.

The Library shelves offer both regular and large print hardcover books.  Choose from fiction, mystery, westerns, history, biography and so many other subjects.  Our paperback inventory is extensive having all your favorite authors.  When the “Grands” visit, we may have a book or DVD to their liking.

Also, have you visited the new mystery section in the Library recently? The Library staff is thrilled with Steve Boast’s donation of four bookcases as well as many boxes of paperbacks from the mystery and intrigue genre.
